Philosophy of Care

Texas Boy Ranch exists to provide care for abused and neglected children. Our children are given a stable living environment in one of our four cottages. Each cottage has a live-in houseparent couple dedicated to changing the lives of these young people. Our houseparents create a stable, structured, and loving environment that most of our children have never had before.

Our children have the unique opportunity of living on a 460-acre working ranch. Our kids receive the structure and discipline they need by working with our ranch animals, mowing the lawns, or working with our ranch foreman, Brady Goen, in the fields of TBR.

In order to meet each child’s needs, we work collaboratively with therapists, educational tutors, professional child-care staff, social workers, ministers, a program director, and a tenured executive director.

Above all else, we are a nondenominational Christian agency. We have a commitment to caring for children based upon a philosophy of Christian childcare. Each child has the opportunity to learn about God’s unfailing love in Bible class, church, cottage devotionals, and campus-wide activities coordinated by our Education/Recreation/Spiritual Development Coordinator, Russ Miller. We believe positive change occurs within a therapeutic environment that embraces warm, affirming relationships and promotes personal growth and development. Our services are provided in a Christian environment that is safe, nurturing and predictable.  These services, provided by excellently trained staff, are individualized and empower the child and family to focus on permanency planning and accomplishment of goals to enhance re-entry into the community.

We see real change happen by meeting the social, educational, physical, and spiritual needs of each child.  A structured and loving environment created by our houseparents, the discipline our children receive from working on an active ranch, and our collaborative efforts make the transformation in our children’s lives possible.
